There is something wrong in a world where poverty claims 30 million lives each year. Those of us who are able, have the responsibility to take action. Poverty is an evil and to do nothing condones it. It is my conviction it will be the ordinary people who will bring an end to poverty. The contribution of governments, G8, the International Monetary Fund, banks, big business the noble efforts of the "good guys" (the rock stars, film stars and caring world leaders) has been, and will continue to be significant and vital, but the ending of extreme poverty will be effective and sustainable only if millions of individuals worldwide realise they also can make a difference. The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothingI am one ordinary individual who, like many others, has a passion to see an end to poverty. I will not stand aside and ignore this problem, poverty should not be tolerated, I will endeavour to make a change, I will NOT do nothing. Sailing for Justice will carry an open letter to encourage each man, woman and child worldwide to care about poverty. The central message is to get involved, follow an action plan so you can make a difference. The action plan will be available to view when complete on the Sailing for Justice web site. (www.sailingforjustice.com) In brief the Sailing for Justice message is:Seek peace and harmony, have compassion for your fellow man, embrace life in all it's forms, do all you can to contribute to eradicate poverty, support one of the good relief agencies with a small contribution monthly from your income and talk to people, encourage them to do the same.Make Poverty historyThe Make Poverty history campaign has alerted the world to the severity of the situation when 30 million people die each year. The galling part of this is that most of these deaths are avoidable. The Make Poverty history movement is here to stay and it is my calling from God to carry a message to all the peoples of the world that it is indeed they who could, if they have the will, end poverty. history has proven that if people wish to make a change, they can: the human rights movement in the USA, the ending of apartheid in South Africa, the ending of communism in the former USSR and "eastern block countries". These have been events that have changed the world. They illustrate change, which at one stage could not have been believed possible, can happen. With this in mind people all over the world can realise and appreciate that they do indeed have the power to end poverty! |
